History Of BSE

BSC was established in 1875 in Mumbai, the financial capital of India. In Mumbai, some people gathered under a banyan tree and used to buy and sell shares. Gradually the number of people started increasing, then a new place was discovered for the exchange of shares, which later became famous as Dalal Street. Today there is a tower of BSE in this Dalal Street.

BSE was founded by Premchand Roychand ji along with 300 people. Initially, the name of BSE was The Native Stock Broker Association, which was later changed to Bombay Stock Exchange.

Before 1992, the exchange of shares was done through documents, which took a lot of time to exchange the shares as it took about 5-6 months for the documents to reach the investors. And scams also started increasing in the stock market.

Seeing the increasing scams in the stock markets, the Government of India established an organization called SEBI in 1992, whose purpose was to control the stock market and protect the interests of investors.

SEBI had made rules for the stock market on the basis of the US markets, in which all the accounts of share transactions were to be kept in the computer. But BSE refused to obey the rules of SEBI, so the government created another stock exchange named NSE (National Stock Exchange) in 1992.

In view of the increasing attraction of investors towards computerized stock exchange, BSE got itself listed in SEBI in 1995. And BSE also became a computerized stock exchange. Since then, BSE works only under the rules of SEBI.

What is Sensex

Sensex is the benchmark index of BSE. BSE Sensex was started in 1986. The top 30 companies listed in BSE are included in Sensex.

If 30 companies included in Sensex performed well, that is, there was a boom in Sensex, then it means that the share prices of companies listed in BSE have increased and BSE investors have benefited.

If there is a decline in the performance of 30 companies included in the Sensex, then it means that the share price of the companies listed in BSE has decreased.
